Making the case for missions in North America

Is mission work in North America, where most people are at least somewhat familiar with Christianity already, worth doing? Should the church focus all of its efforts in parts of the world that aren’t so already heavily influenced by Christianity? Here’s an interesting article, written last year by Dawn Ministries’ Ngwiza Mnkandla, that addresses just that question:

The argument “Why should some hear the gospel ten times over when some have not even heard the name of Jesus once?” has been used compellingly to encourage missions to unreached people groups around the world who desperately need to hear for the first time. As a visitor to this country, I also subscribed to this thinking. The short while I have been living in this country compels me to give the other side of this argument. There is an urgent need to reach North America with the gospel like never before.

It’s an encouraging piece for anyone who is working hard on the “home front” in the United States or other Western nations. Mnkandla concludes: “In most foreign missions, its easy to establish a big work in no time. Thumbs up for those who are trying to do it in this postmodern society where God is no longer at the center of life!”
