What are your spiritual gifts?

What are your spiritual gifts? All of us have unique abilities and talents, given to us by God, although not everyone recognizes their own gifts.

Blaine Smith of Nehemiah Ministries has posted a good article on recognizing your spiritual gifts and learning how they fit into God’s plan for your life. He challenges us not to dismiss our gifts by comparing them to other people’s, and to keep alert for opportunities to sharpen our talents in the service of God.

Most of us are “one-talent” persons. We are not going to be another Billy Graham, Mahatma Ghandi or Mother Teresa. When we see ourselves falling short of the accomplishments of certain renowned individuals, we can lose the motivation to take our own potential seriously. Each of us without exception, however, has significant gifts–and opportunities to invest them for Christ that vastly exceed our expectations.

What this provision amounts to specifically varies greatly from person to person. But God wants each of us to begin with the a priori assumption that he has endowed us with important ability to meet vital human needs, and that he will open all the doors necessary for us to be productive. This attitude of faith will help us take meaningful steps toward fully understanding our gifts and the opportunities Christ provides us to make a difference.

Smith has written other articles about using your spiritual gifts and related topics. And if you’re interested in exploring the idea of gifts and calling further, the Christian Career Center has a number of articles on finding your calling (although with a career focus).

i believe everyone is being given a spiritual gift.some people are given the gift to prophesy, some receive visions, some to have dreams. all it takes is to first know hat’s the Lord’s plan is for us.

Hard to comment on a couple of paragraphs but saying that someone is “one-talent” could be taken the wrong way. Either that a person might have just one talent/gift from God which i doubt or that most of us are the type to bury the talent out of fear. I believe that people often have many spiritual gifts and that these can change to suit the needs at the time. The important thing is to recognise them as you say and use them.

Martin, I think you have to take in mind the authors context and direction. One talent can change the world as did Billy Graham, Mahatma Ghandi or Mother Teresa. These talents are individualistic just like your talent is. I doubt the author meant we only have on talent, but as we are one with God we are one talent to the world.

My gift from God is singing. When I minister in church with my voice, the Lord has a way of using it as he pleases and I love it! Sometimes he has me so far in a zone that it just amazes me. Even when I feel, “Oh I could of done better with that song”, people continue to come up to me and let me know that I blessed them but I have to give glory to God because it’s not me at all!!! Lord thank you for using me to bless others! However, I do believe the lord has given me other gifts but I have not tap into them yet. Lord use me over and over!

how could i discern that what i am doing is really my gift and not my comforting zone? most of my friends and leaders tell me that i need to step forward from my ministry, and try something new. but i am afraid to do so because i don’t think i have other talent/gift which i could use to serve the Lord..

The Lord, in His grace, has been generous with me. I have had, since a very young age, a wonderful gift of understanding. I’m the one people talk to about problems, life, or business, because they know I understand just what they are trying to say, even if it is something not easily expressed in words. This same gift has also made me a talented writer and motivational speaker. I’m proud and thrilled to be in debt and service to the Lord Jesus. Romans 14:8!
