Leadership in Youth Ministry

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

teensPart of the job of a Youth leader is to train up the church leaders of tomorrow. It’s exciting. It’s necessary. It’s daunting.

For those that have stood in front of a crowd of teenagers, you know what it’s like looking at a sea of bored faces, lots of shoe-staring and whispered side conversations, it can be difficult. But being a part of the change that takes a high schooler from a passive recipient of information to a particpating member of the body of Christ is stunning.

Here are a few articles on leadership development written for youth workers:

First is this article on developing an environment for leadership development from Youth Ministry Exchange.

How to identify leaders in your midst

And from Legacy Youth Ministry Resources comes a lengthy discussion on Training Student Leadership: Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapters Three and Four, and if you’re interested there are more chapters.

Any Children in Your Family?

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

childrenWe’re taking this week to highlight resources from our Gospel.com community on family, and today we’re looking at resources about children. Children are the building blocks of family. When they’re present they drive everything from finances to play. Our heavenly father calls us to raise up those He has entrusted to us in His ways. A task that, hopefully, no one has to take on completely by themselves.

Psychology for Living has published a few articles on kids that parents might find interesting:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder outlines the types and diagnosis of AD/HD in children.
  • When Children Lie to You tries to get at why they lie and what to do about it.
  • Lastly, this is an article about the difference between loving your children and them experiencing it called Why Love Is Not Enough.
  • Psychology for Living attempts to provide biblical solutions to “human problems through literature, radio, the world-wide web, training seminars and counseling.”

Mentoring using New Christian Life Ministries

    Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Are you in a mentoring relationship that needs some direction? New Christian Life Ministries “passion is to see believers live Spirit-empowered lives.” Their web site is run by the author Rev. James Hall, who has this to say about his ministry:

After years of careful study of the Scriptures, much thought, and countless personal witnessing and discipling exchanges, God has birthed these guidelines and lessons in Jim’s spirit and made them available to others under the title “The Harvester’s Handbook.”

His eWorkbook and curriculum is designed as a program for young believers to walk through the basics of the faith with an older believer. Advice and support are provided for the more mature believer in this process as well.

If you’re interested in trying out the discipleship eWorkbook, you can find the first two units for free online here (free sign-up required). Each additional lesson costs $1. The eWorkbook allows you to keep a daily journal and guides you through some of the basics of Christianity with plenty of biblical backing.

Their prayer “is that through this ministry, many will come to know Christ, and many will truly learn what it is to follow our Lord and Savior.”

Iron sharpening iron: building the body of Christ through mentoring

    Thursday, November 29th, 2007

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” It’s one of the more famous proverbs in the Bible, and it points to a basic truth: one of our most important jobs as Christians and as human beings is to help each other grow in the faith.
