    Addressing the “hard sayings:”
When we obey the gospel, insisting on loving our enemies, even to the point of “doing good to them,” we can finally find peace. Who is my enemy? Those close to us: a neighbor who is a miserable, hurtful, yet powerful person, or my sister, who is angry at the rest of us because we took care of her as a baby (’cause mom was mentally ill, but she simply can’t accept that). Enemies are also those we’ve never seen, a terrorist, a skinhead, a tyranical president in Sudan, a jerk in another car.
But, in obedience, we grow. We learn our place in the Eternal scheme of things. So, I take soup and taco salad to my neighbor, I stand in front of the White House with a sign saying Love your Enemy, and I pray for my own need to love without reservation, as Christ loves me.
    And I pray.
