Israeli soldiers are respected all over the world for their military ability. That day in Jerusalem, I saw one reason why. They know something every follower of Christ has to remember. We have to always be prepared for war, and it doesn't stop because you're relaxing. Always carry your weapon - the artillery of God's words loaded in your heart. Serve Him With Mirth: free e-book on the humor of Jesus and the Biblehttp://ied.gospelcom.net/mirth.php2008-08-25T13:05:20-05:00
Is humor a forgotten area of Christian ministry? Leslie Flynn’s classic book is one of only a handful on this subject published in the past 50 years. Many find it very hard to perceive the extent to which humor and whimsy is embedded into the vast majority of the books of the Bible. The cultural and linguistic gap between us and the books of the Old and New Testaments can prevent us understanding the frequent use of jokes, irony, whimsy, word-play and puns. We expect no humor, so we see none. Every pilot knows if your attitude is incorrect, there will be tragic results. Every person knows that - or at least we should. If your attitude is right, you can make it through almost anything. If your attitude is wrong, you're going to start losing altitude, tumbling, and eventually crashing. In life, we usually don't get to choose our circumstances, the kind of stuff we have to fly through. A lot of that is determined by forces or people beyond our control. But we can choose our attitude. And it will be our attitude, not our circumstances, that determine whether we stay up or go down. Now quakes are inescapable. They’re part of life. I don’t mean just the kind that register on the Richter Scale. There are major shakeups that hit us medically and maritally and occupationally and financially and relationally and spiritually. The question isn’t whether or not we’re going to have life-quakes; it’s whether what we’re building our life on can withstand the quake, because a life that matters just doesn’t collapse when everything’s shaking. Not really, but the kind of love God expects of us husbands, is the kind that does abandon our self preservation for our wife. To live a life that matters at home, her needs matter more than yours. Her need to be heard matters more than your need to get things done Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - The King Thing - #4038http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Personal-Power/The-King-Thing-40382008-08-01T16:40:04-05:00
So that's the game - do something just because someone else says it. We're all grown up now, but some of us are still playing that game. Some of us have a tendency to let someone else do our thinking for us, and we just unthinkingly, uncritically go along with what they say. Especially if it's a Christian leader we really like and respect. Anything he or she says must be right. Not always. Yes and no! Yes, Christ is coming back and we will meet Him and it will be spectacular and no words or speculations could ever describe it effectively, especially not in the way most books and TV preachers have sensationalized it... However in fact, it is not a biblical fact or idea or even a word in the Bible....
