A growing number of free short ebooks are available on social and other media for church ministry. Note the word 'short'. Long books can be great, but a surprising amount of wisdom and practical advice can be condensed into 10-20 pages. It is, perhaps, the 15-minute TED lecture approach, applied to text.
You can read them quickly, and keep them as reference manuals. Social media is not optional for non-profits, ministries, companieshttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/103222013-02-08T11:08:54-05:00
The HooteSuite video below, though it is primarily discussing businesses, clearly explains the importance of social media connectedness at every level in any organization – charity, non-profit, ministry – and emphasizes that in the end, it is just people and relationships. Particularly highlighted in this video: social media needs to permeate through the entire organization, and is not something that is just 'done' by the marketing department. Richard Branson is cited as an example of a CEO who is constantly tweeting. Share your faith on Facebook - cartoon explains how easy it ishttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/99182012-12-14T10:59:17-05:00
Social media has changed everything in digital communication.
For non-profits and Christian ministries, Eric Qualman chillingly observes in his new video, "The ROI of Social Media is: your business still exists in five years." It is really as stark as this – if your non-profit or ministry does not have an integrated social media strategy (rather than just trying to bolt-on a bit of Facebook or Twitter), you are in danger. Your church will also suffer, though not terminally, if it does not use social media, says Josh Burns.
But equally significant – and greatly under-utilized – is this new potential for any Jesus-follower to share faith appropriately across relationships, using social media. YesEIs have produced a new short cartoon video explaining just how simple this it is to use their own curated choices of evangelistic video shorts. Lagos has a larger population than many countries. And just look at the social networking opportunities in this infographic. New ebook REACH on using social media to share the good newshttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/96332012-11-02T13:01:39-05:00
The authors are convinced of the incredible kingdom opportunity that social media provide, and they present this potential in an enticing and clear way. Their main focus is on Facebook (including the opportunity to share YouTube clips within it), plus a brief encouragement to blog. Social networking can be incredibly effective for churcheshttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/94572012-10-18T11:54:03-05:00
Check the striking message of the first pie chart in the infographic below, based on a study by Buzzplant. Admittedly, the polled sample of churches was relatively small, and only within one country.
But… see how churches claim that social media was twice as effective as any other means of connecting to the wider community. Best social media tip ever: don't multi-task, set time blockshttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/93532012-09-25T12:46:01-05:00
The social media monster is out to get you! How to beat him:
- Don't multi-task. Do each thing in time blocks. Then desist completely till its next time block. One at a time: Twitter, Facebook, emails, creative stuff, other responsibilities.
- Sometimes even switch off – don't be like the girl at 0:18 in the frieze on the bronze statue at the magnificent rebuilt London St Pancras station. The best guide book to using social media: PLATFORM by M Hyatthttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/90462012-08-22T12:36:09-05:00
On the strength of other people's experience, I've already blogged twice about Michael Hyatt's new book Platform.
Now I've read it, I can tell you everything they said is true. This really is the best book available on using social media to communicate your message. Sharing a life-saving message to Facebook friend in crisishttp://internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/88552012-08-09T12:21:59-05:00
Moving story of Tim Reilly sharing the good news through social media, at a critical point in a friend’s life.
Two comments:
- A prerequisite for this story: that Tim had a number of not-yet-followers as Facebook friends.
- He was open to the guidance of God's Spirit on who to speak to, and to use real-time Facebook messaging rather than merely posting a comment or question.
