Now that is the heart of real manhood: protecting a woman from being hurt, from being used, from being exploited, from being devalued - especially by you. There is a critical shortage of that kind of manhood. The man who steps up to this kind of brotherness is a rare treasure, and like anything rare, he is very valuable. But home isn’t just a building—it’s the relationships. So how do we hold our home together when the monster waves hit? It might be financial, it could be medical or conflict or tragedy. The way that Indian man built his home decades ago is still the only way to build a home - one building block at a time. And those building blocks are called days. Not years, not months, not weeks - days. That's not the only house a parent intended to build and never got done. In fact, many of us Moms and Dads knew how we wanted our family to be -- how we still want it to be -- but somehow the home, the family we intended to build never got finished, did it? Even as our children were leaving for college, Karen and I talked about how quickly the years had melted away and how we were feeling there was so much unfinished business in our kids' lives. A lot of families are damaged today because of brake failure in a man or woman's vehicle. I mean your job, your career, your business. That's the vehicle for earning money and maybe even for making a difference in other people's lives. The problem comes when your work gets out of control and you don't have your work anymore - your work has you! The experience of Rich's family is just another reminder that we need to cherish those we love while we can. We never know which hug will be the last hug, which "I love you" the last one, which "goodbye" the final goodbye. Now, the point of remembering that is not to be maudlin or to be anxious all the time. Our times are in God's hands, so they're in good hands. But it is important to realize that life is short at best, and we need to live in such a way that we do all those "I wish I had's" while we can still do them. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - Unexpressed Love - #4128http://hutchcraft.com/A-Word-With-You/Your-Relationships/Unexpressed-Love-41282008-08-18T16:00:25-05:00
No matter what the circumstances, that is one of life's deepest regrets - love that wasn't expressed. The time to remember that is right now, when folks you love are still there. And a teenage girl's tearful regret at Ground Zero is a powerful reminder to all of us that we need to be expressing our love to the people around us, at many times, in many ways. Because love unexpressed is love unenjoyed.
