Battered and confused, we finally open our soul to the love that we've been looking for all our lives. And we find in Jesus what the Bible calls "an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19). The howling winds leave us, not lost, but found and finally at peace. God sees it all. And He knew that what was hidden in my dark places would blow up my life and my eternity. So He acted to defuse it with the most extreme act of sacrificial love in history. He absorbed the "blast" Himself so I could board the flight to His heaven and be with Him forever. When you come to God honestly, and you admit your need, and you begin your relationship with Him, well you'll enter His presence lost. Your Father is standing there ready to help as only He can, but you've got to release that bitterness that's making your burden so much heavier. Why carry that load too? Jesus' death on the cross is your only hope of getting into heaven, because you can't get into heaven with your sin. It can only be forgiven by the One who paid the penalty for it. That's Jesus! The Survivor Tree - #6620http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/the-survivor-tree-66202012-05-29T10:04:14-05:00
Our only hope is clinging to the tree where God's judgment fell on His Son. Or, more importantly, to cling to the One who died on that tree, which means abandoning all other hopes: our pride, our religion, our self-reliance. And realizing we are as desperate and as helpless as a man being swept out to sea, and then clinging to the One whose death on that tree for us is literally our only hope - your only hope. Weariness, according to Hebrews 12 , seems to result from taking your eyes off Jesus. Maybe you're weary because you've been doing God's work in your strength. You know better, but you've gone from God working through you to the crank-it-out weariness of you suddenly working for God. Oh, you're doing the same things, but it's not Him through you. It's you for Him. Or it could be that you've been looking at the results you're getting instead of the Savior you're serving. Have you been neglecting your time with Jesus? You can't see it, but you're being steadily weakened and eroded by what you're not doing. You just can't afford another day away. There have been too many already. The alternative is that one day you'll be closed; you'll cave in.
