He extends His invitation specifically to each of us, individually--He knows our names, and wants each of us specifically to become a member of His family When It Hurts to Copy Your Father - #5751 http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-hindrances/when-it-hurts-to-copy-your-father-5751 2009-09-09T15:59:39-05:00 There are things our father and mother did, things they said, that we were determined not to repeat when we had kids. Well, so much for that good intention. All too often, the longer we live, the more we sound like or act like our father or mother in ways that we never wanted to repeat. We know how much those things hurt us, and in spite of ourselves, they are now hurting our children: that same temper, that same critical spirit, that same manipulating, guilt tripping, harsh words, withdrawal or selfishness. "Curse" in the Bible: Galatians 3:13 http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%203:13&version=NIV 2009-08-10T15:55:54-05:00 All of us live under the curse of sin, but Jesus has taken that curse upon himself. By dying a shunned and cursed death on the cross, he lifted the curse from our shoulders and place it upon his own. Redeemed in the Bible: Lamentations 3:57-58 http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Lamentations%203:57-58&version=NIV 2009-07-31T08:50:33-05:00 We would have no relationship with God if He did not redeem us first. But when we cry out to Him, He hears us and "takes up our case." "Redeem" in the Bible: 1 Peter 1:17-19 http://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%201:17-19&version=NIV 2009-07-28T10:17:45-05:00 Jesus redeemed us from our lives of sin, not with money or physical wealth, but with his blood, shed at his death. Our debts have, spiritually speaking, been completely paid for us through Christ's resurrection. Maybe we know a little about how God feels when we do the very same thing. When we're doing something wrong, we'd far rather cover it up than clean it up. But the mess and the stench just keep growing.
