The logic is that if we sin more God has more to forgive. Q.E.D. God would be more merciful. However, since we are now dead to sin and no longer its slave we should instead strive for righteousness. In this case, we learn that we are spiritual slaves to sin and its power until we find freedom in Christ. We become "slaves" to Christ instead, and find that slavery to Christ is in fact true spiritual freedom.
