The verses talk about “when sorrows like sea billows roll…whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, ‘it is well with my soul.’” I glanced over at that precious lady with Alzheimer’s who had appeared pretty unresponsive most of the weekend. Her lips were moving. She was mouthing those words! ”It is well, it is well with my soul.” It was hard for me to sing after that. Then she mouthed the words to the next song, ”My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine…If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now”. What a testimony to the kind of Savior we have. He’s our sunrise Savior, early in our life. The painting that won was a real surprise. The scene was the ocean in a violent storm. The sky was ominous, the lightning was cutting across the sky, and the waves were crashing into the rock walls of the cliffs by the shore. Where was the peace? You had to look twice to understand what was going on. There, about halfway up the cliff, was a birds' nest tucked into a tiny hollow in the rock. A mother bird was sitting on that nest with her little babies tucked underneath her, sleeping soundly. Over one line is a sign that says, "Forward", and over the other line a sign that says, "Backward". It's your choice to ride looking forward or looking backward. There are also two lines in life, and two cars you can ride in. One says, "Forward" and the other says, "Backward." You choose. You probably don't want to ride looking back at where you've already been. Instead, you probably want to ride looking ahead to see where you're going. ... That's what God wants for you too.
