Don't believe the lies in your brain that keep telling you you're a paper plate, that you're worthless, that keep tempting you to throw yourself away. You are fine china! You're to be reserved for special purposes. If you feel like you're not worth much, then it's time to pay a visit to the cross where Jesus Christ died for you. That's how much God thinks you're worth - the life of His Son. One newspaper said, “Susan Boyle is a Disney movie waiting to happen.” Well, maybe so. She was a contestant on England’s Britain’s Got Talent TV show. She was described as unglamorous, unfashionable, unknown, and when she walked on stage the judges just rolled their eyes. And then she sang, and she blew everyone away! A YouTube clip of her singing attracted over 40 million hits. Nobody realized the treasure she had inside her. A friend of ours has been watching the price of gold going up and up, and she decided it was time to trade in some gold jewelry for cash. She had some elegant looking pieces, and then one that she described as “really pretty ugly.” But the jeweler saw something different. The beautiful pieces brought some modest cash. The “ugly” one was worth more than any other piece. It didn’t look all that great on the outside, but when the jeweler weighed it, he said it was solid gold all the way through. Every man or woman in our world was made in the image of Almighty God Himself. Every man and woman in our world is "fearfully and wonderfully made," and is, in the Bible's words, "God's workmanship." Our subtle racism, or prejudice, or feelings of superiority are nothing less than sin to a holy God who "so loved the world that He gave His Son." Worth More Than You Can Imagine - #5831http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-personal-power/worth-more-than-you-can-imagine-58312009-09-10T12:45:26-05:00
Knowing how much you're really worth comes from being close to the God who gave you your worth. But we've trashed ourselves by doing things our way instead of God's way: lying, hurting others, dirtying sex, living selfishly. Our sin has separated us from the One who made us. But then Jesus came. He showed how much we matter to God. The Bid For You - #5756http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-hard-times/the-bid-for-you-57562009-09-09T16:06:33-05:00
There is no question Who has made the highest bid for you by far. At the cross, Jesus offered His life as the price to bring you back to God, which may be why you've questioned your value, why you've felt like you're not worth much. You're away from the One who made you, you're away from the God who gave you your worth! Jesus sees the rock you can become, no matter what anyone else sees! It could be, like the song says, that "all you have to offer Him is brokenness and strife, but He'll make something beautiful of your life"! The parable right before this indicates that the field is this world we live in and the man in the field is Jesus. And the buried treasure? That's you and me. It's very possible you've been such a buried treasure that you don't even know you're a treasure! But Jesus thinks so! I love one thought that George W. Bush expressed in his Inaugural Address. He said, "No insignificant person was ever born." Value - a Christian perspectivehttp://biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2010:2&version=NIV2009-08-18T16:38:29-05:00
No matter how expensive, no item obtained by theft or dishonesty has any real value. By contrast, it is acts of righteousness that God values. I think Indy’s search mirrors ours minus a little wild action scenes. It starts young, it intensifies as we get older; that search for the spiritual answers that will bring some peace to our soul and a life that matters.
