I like what the Bible says in Colossians 3, "Whatever you do, do it with all your heart." And I really like what Jim Elliot, the missionary martyr said, "Wherever you are, be all there." See, things don't work as well when you do them "out of season." Each day, each week has seasons in your life. Well, do with all your heart what it's time to do at that moment and then God makes everything beautiful in its time. In the movie Return to Me (one of my favorites), a main character is asked by his granddaughter if he needs some help with cleaning up. His response, "No, no. I've been blessed with work." I don't know about you, but I don't always feel that way . . . There's nothing more exciting than releasing what you have to help finish the work Jesus came to do. There's nothing more unsettling than to imagine Jesus returning, looking at all you have, and asking, "What are you doing sitting on all of that?" For those of us fighting on the front lines, it's our responsibility to make every bullet count, to stay on mission, to always take the high road, and put our faith in Jehovah Jireh, not in contributors. And for every one of us, we need to hear the cries from the front lines, "We're winning, but we're running out of ammunition!" Let's throw everything we can into this battle for which Jesus gave everything He had! In Ecclesiastes 3:11, Solomon actually puts his finger on why happiness is so elusive: He says, "God has set eternity in the hearts of men." We're made for something that will last forever, and nothing that doesn't last forever will ever fill the hole in our heart. In fact, we were made for a personal relationship with God, the only One who's big enough to fill that hole because that hole was made for Him. 4-D Glasses - #2501http://hutchcraft.com/a-word-with-you/your-most-important-relationship/4-d-glasses-25012009-10-01T10:08:18-05:00
You're not looking at just your circumstances, you're looking for your Lord at work, in your phone call, in an accident that was avoided, in a word of encouragement, there's the Lord in that little child, there He is speaking through that powerful storm, in the geese going by overhead, through some unanticipated help in your life. You find yourself thanking God often throughout the day, and you lose the complaining. Jack had been my best friend in high school, and now he was a very successful airline pilot. And his wife had a great job with the airline, too. Their brand new Cadillac was parked in a security garage under their exclusive apartment in New York City. We had a great evening when they invited us for dinner. So, we invited them to visit us at our totally not-exclusive apartment in a very modest New Jersey suburb. The problem was that about every ten minutes Jack would get up all worried and keep looking out the window. Finally, I figured out what he was doing. He was checking to be sure his new Cadillac–which was parked on the street–was still there. I thought: “I’m not sure if Jack owns his car, or his car owns him.
