Babel - a Christian perspective

The story of the tower of Babel is an interesting tale not only about the origin of different languages, but of human hubris and ambition.

  1. Jeff Steckley says:

I don’t see it as a “tale”. I believe this is exactly how it happened. It’s the only explanation we have for different ethnicities in today’s world.

With the internet flourishing as it is, we will soon be in a similar position as the people were in the tower of Babel days. We will again become overly ambitious as we get closer to speaking one language again. The difference this time is that Christ is with us.

  2. Chris says:

@Jeff keep in mind that the word “tale” doesn’t necessarily mean the story is false. :)

You mentioned that we’re approaching another Tower of Babel moment with internet. If we do get there, how do you think it will be different now that we have Christ?

  3. Jay2027 says:

God created us for his pleasure and our purpose in life is to worship him.
    God will bless us abundantly.
Babel was built without the mention of God.
God destroyed Babel because man was too proud and forgot God.
If God is not included in mans plans, then it will end in failure.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
