Cherish in the Bible - a Christian perspective

Jesus' love for his church is compared to our love for our own bodies. We take good care of our bodies; Jesus takes good care of his church, which is in a sense his "body" on earth.

  1. Follower of christ says:

The bible is a solid foundation for each person to live their lives by. If only man were not as selfish or opened their hearts just a little.. they would see how much God really loves us and how much he has done for us and most of all how real he is. In the old testiment God covered every issue which would/ could come up and would be known to man, in the new testiment there is the solid foundation in the words of Jesus Christ the saviour. As a christian, I find that it is not an easy task to share the gospel with non believers, they just don’t want to know. I feel so very sad that most are heading down the road of distruction and they can’t be turned around!!

  2. Dick Pickens says:

Years ago when I was about to perform a wedding ceremony that referred to the word “cherish”, I dug into that word in the Greek. It occurred to me that the word (”thalpo”)was akin to the word “thallo”, a word that means “to warm”. As an ex dj I knew full well the lyrics of that hit song by THE ASSOCIATION. It says in the beginning line “Cherish is a word I use to describe all the feelings that I have hiding here inside.” While cherishing can be a feeling, I see it more importantly as an active verb – to say, to show, and even to DO a warming of your wife (or husband). Warming happens from our words, our closeness, and our hugs. If you always cherish, love never grows cold.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
