Proverbs tells us that it would be better for a man to live on the corner of a roof than have to share his house with a quarrelsome wife.

Proverbs 21:9? This is about the discord and arguments in the “self driven” home and how they ruin the family and distract us from our Lord, His goodness and love that we are to emulate. This is not necessarily what to do, rather how one feels. That a bad wife who nags, quarrels and or does not respect her husband will break the spirit and hope of the man who will then want to leave. But, a godly man will do instead of leaving ones family as provider, will do the honorable thing, and to ease tensions, move to a part of the house, the roof. This was not good either, many Middle Eastern homes had a porch and attic dwelling or perch on it, which would not be so pleasant either to live at, but better than in the home of strife. This is a contrast to having a good wife who loves, respects and nurtures. This in context is also about the virtues and rewards of the wise verses the wicked. If the husband was at fault or wicked and caused the wife to misbehave because he did not love and care for her, he can reflect on his wrongs and see what he did and repent on the roof. 1 Kings 17:19; Prov. 19:13-14; 21:19; 25:24; chap. 31

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
