Genealogy in the Bible - a Christian perspective

The New Testament begins not just with the birth of Christ, but with a complete list of the family line from Abraham to Jesus. It was important to establish that Christ was the legitimate and promised descendant of Abraham.

The Geneology of Jesus from David to Jesus is little bit different in Mathew chapter 1 and as mentioned in 2 Kings 14, 15, etc and II Chronicles 21 onwards. I think some ancestors are missed out in between Jehoram to Uzziah.

This is just for my spiritual enlightnment. Could you please throw light on this.

We should not believe in the genealogy of Abraham through Jesus. We all know that Jesus did not have a genealogical relationship with Abraham. Let us read the bible in Mattew (1). Very detailed genealogy, The Book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2. Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas And His Brethren; 3. And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar, and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; … 15. And Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan, and Matthan begat Jacob; 16. And Jacob begat Joseph the Husband of Mary, of Whom was born Jesus, Who is Called Christ. Consider the genealogy of Joseph ended. Joseph was not the biological fathers of Jesus. Because, when Mary was married to Joseph, mary was already pregnant. Mary’s pregnancy is not because of sex acts with Joseph. So Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus, so it should be, Jesus did not have the genealogy from Abraham or Isaac. Why bible wrote this? this is what until recently been controversial, whether the author knows the bible is true genealogy of Jesus?, or just write without proof. This is faith. Not a simple problem. How beliefs about it?, It’s up to you.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
