Hair in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 11:5-15

This much-debated passage lays down guidelines for women's hair styles and length. Christians today debate the extent to which instructions like these--written for the early church--apply to the modern church, but it's important for us to think through them carefully.

  1. hairgospel says:

In most foreign countries outside of America most women do cover their heads during prayer and in church with scarfs and hats. A lot of American women-if any that choose to cover their heads, mainly wear hats.

We understand that hair is very important to a women and for those women who are always concerned that their hair is in place- covering your hair during prayer is a very humbling act.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
