Hope deferred - a Christian perspective
Have you ever had your hope deferred? Proverbs tells us that when our hope is deferred it makes our very heart sick. However, when a longing is fulfilled, we are filled with life.

Need to give a sermon on
rov.13:12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Can you all help?
I think Romans 8:18 to 8:27 speaks to this. The creation itself has hope. For liberation from the bondage of the curse. And there is a suffering, a groaning that exists during the time of waiting.
So yes, there is a sickness of the heart, a time of suffering. But Paul said it’s not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Rev Ken, you might find some of the commentaries here helpful: http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/index.php?action=getMainPage&source=2
If we keep on thinking on the negative side of life we feel sick we feel oppressed, depress and discouraged but if we think of good things from God we feel encouraged, we feel energized, inspired and thats by way of walking with God and by renewing of our mind each day and what said in Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve whats God’s will is- His good pleasing and perfect will. Have a blessed day!!!
I am dealing with a hope deferred right now and it does indeed make my heart sick. The ONLY thing that keeps me going and walking in faith is that I trust God to keep His promise to me and therefor I know that if keep walking in my faith, walking in victory, my reward will be fulfilled like a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12). I must keep my focus and meditate on Romans 4:16 – 24 and continue to hope when there is seemingly no reason to hope from my flesh’s perspective. If I continue to hope, I will be like Abraham and God will count it righteousness and His promise to me will be granted. God keeps His promises. He does not lie like man (Numbers 23:19. God delights in our trusting Him (Hebrews 11:16) and so I will press on in my faith.
