Ishmael - a Christian perspective

Ishmael was the son of Hagar, Abram's servant, and the story of his mother's pregnancy is a difficult one filled with jealousy and cruelty.

  1. Mearl says:

Is Ishmael the start of Arab, Muslims etc.

  2. Lee says:

Yes, Ishmael is was the first of the Arabic world race and Islam.

Interesting to note…….God spoke to Sarah telling her they she would bear a son. Well past child bearing years, her faith faltered, and she allowed and propelled Abraham to lie with Hagar, Sara’s maid. And Ishmael was the result.

Had Sarah waited on the Lord for his promise, there would have been no Ismael, and no Islam.

Sarah’s single act of waivering faith………you fill in the blank.

  3. al1960 says:

It doesn’t mean that there is a lesser love on God’s part for the Arab people who trust in Him.

It does however, mean those who reject Him do so without excuse. They have turned from Him despite the origin of their lineage and His original blessing and mercy. Islam is therefore the ultimate slap in the face of the true God. The very true God who spared them and cared for them when the disbelief of Sarah and Abraham created a unwanted wrinkle in the promise God made of a son to carry on Abraham’s name.

  4. cynthia young says:

where did hagar come from and how did she come to be sarahs maid-servant
