Jesus and children - a Christian perspective

In Matthew, children are brought up to Jesus in order to be prayed over. The disciples try to rebuke those that are bringing the children before Jesus. Jesus then rebukes the disciples and says that the kingdom of God belongs to the children.

I realize now and maybe it is too late that my son has turned to drugs and other perversions that now he wishes me dead. He hates me terribly…yes he is a product of a divorce…and reading this passage I feel that I have failed him. I brought him to church every Sunday, but did we both feel we understood God’s message? Reading this passage means to me NOW that I should have focused more on Jesus’ teachings than just bringing my son to church. Jesus is saying in this passage there is no other way for children but Him. If only I did this for my son, he perhaps would not be lost or hateful. I pray every day for Jesus to turn my son’s heart and be healed.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
