Korah - a Christian perspective
Korah was a leader of a small band of people among the Israelites. It's a complicated story, but it seems that Korah and his followers were angry that Moses and Aaron were setting themselves up as heads of the community, when according to Korah the whole community was holy. Moses told them to present themselves to God to test whether they were right or not. God's glory came down and the earth swallowed Korah and his followers and a fire consumed the 250 holding censers.
“[The Birth of Jesus] In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.”
- Luke 2:1, 4-5
