"Pure" in the Bible: Philippians 4:8

Christianity isn't just a big list of things to avoid doing and thinking. We're called to actively pursue what is good and pure. This verse challenges us to focus our thoughts and efforts not on sin and the things of this world, but on things that honor God.

This is a great verse for all to memorize but especially teenagers. My daughter was having some trouble in school with bullying and she carried this verse in her pocket. Today the same verse helps her when she is asked by peers to watch something or listen to something that is unGodly. The Holy Spirit and God’s Holy Work equips us with what we need to face the challenges in today’s crazy world.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
