"Renew" in the Bible: Romans 12:2

When God saves us from sin, He doesn't just want to see an outward change in us. He wants to see a complete inner transformation of the way we think. We are called to renew our minds, casting off our old ways of thinking and rejecting the world's wisdom.

  1. Tory Ellison says:

I’ve noticed in the AA program’s 12 steps that they all seem to be scripture paraphrased into a different form in the AA book. This verse in particular –be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind–especially stands out. The miracle of losing the compulsion to drink is that no human power could do it –it’s an “inside job” –God doing for us what we could not do for ourselves!

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
