"Saved" in the Bible: Acts 4:11-12

How are we "saved" from our sin? There's only one way: through Jesus Christ. As this passage teaches, no other person, name, or belief system can offer us a true relationship with God.

The name is Jesus. After we believe on that name then we must confess our sins (repent of them ) and the be baptized ( to was a way those sins) after which we will recieve his gift the Holy Ghost ( comforter of which the Bible Speaks ) with evidence of speaking in tongues the big word here is evidence it is so that there is proof tht we are filled with his spirit to all.

  2. Andy says:

Amen! The only thing that I would add is that there are other forms of evidence than speaking in tongues–speaking in tongues may be one spiritual gift that manifests in the Christian life, but it isn’t the only one. Good deeds done in Jesus’ name are a great testament to your faith in him.

    To “I once was lost”
Just a special note is that only the blood of Christ can wash away sins. Baptism is for a witness of the saving transaction between the sinner and the forgiving Christ, when the sinner confesses His sin of rejecting Christ and all that He stands for and commands us, and His love.
If baptism were a truly saving factor, then the thief on the cross would not have gone on to be with Christ when he died.
    Thank you precious one.

update to I once was lost – Sorry, I did not finish a line:
….when the sinner confesses his/her sin of rejecting Christ and all that He stands for and commands us, and His love, and it is genuine, then we become a child of God, rather or not we are ever able to become baptized in water. Just as the thief on the cross, there are and always have been, over the centuries, and even today, people who accept Christ as Lord and Savior, either on their deathbed, or in other circumstances where and when they cannot be openly baptized as a beginning witness that they now belong to Christ.
    Thank you again precious one.

It seems to me the question that is asked above is not answered. The question asked is “how” (?) are we saved. Then, the question was answered by saying by whom are we saved. These are two different questions.

To Musicalvoices, people today can not be saved the same way as the thief on the cross for a couple of reasons.

    1. The thief lived his whole life and died in the same time frame of the cross / the death of Jesus which changed God’s plan for us from the old Law / Covenant of Moses and the Israelites to the new Covenant of Jesus.

Before His death and resurrection it was not necesary to be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). The Jews and the converts to Judaism had only the baptism of John which was a baptism of repentance (Acts 19:1-7). It was necessary to keep the old Law.

    2. The thief was in personal contact with Jesus in the flesh. Jesus in the flesh could forgive sins by speaking them forgiven. (Example, the thief on the cross) Today, no one has contact with Jesus in the flesh. Our contact nowadays is with Jesus in His spirit.

Jesus left us His words and instructions on how we can be saved in Mark 16:16 and other verses. The apostles Peter and Paul have written extensively on how we are saved.

The physician Luke gives us about nine examples of people being saved after the cross in the book of Acts. Baptism, immersion in water, is mentioned in every example.

To I once was lost and Andy:

Re: being filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues as evidence of salvation is not “how” we are saved. Perhaps you have misunderstood Acts 2:38.

“Peter replied, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV)

The gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:38 (in context) is not the sound of wind, tongues of fire, speaking other languages baptism of the Holy Spirit. Nor does one at Acts 2:38 automatically receive one or more of the nine miraculous, spiritual gifts (tongues, healing, knowledge, etc.) that were given to the apostles only (Acts 2:1-13).

This gift (Acts 2:38) is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in every person that is baptized in water for the forgiveness of sins, then and now.

The water does not save anyone, but the baptism in water does (Romans 6:3-10). When we rise from our spiritual burial in literal water (God’s plan / instructions) we begin to walk in newness of life. We are born again, born of water and the Spirit (John 3;1-7; Romans 6:4-10). We “believeth” (John 3:16). God’s grace is granted (Ephesians 2:8). We have spiritually been crucified with Christ, and thereby have come into contact with His saving blood (Romans 6:3-10).

The Holy Spirit baptism of the apostles (Acts 2:1-13) and the water baptism for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38-47) are two separate and distinct baptisms. The miraculous gifts the apostles received (Acts 2:1-13) and the Spirit as a gift (indwelling) are two separate and distince gifts.

Sorry to disagree, but truth needs to be the goal of all three of us.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
