My father in the Bible - a Christian perspective
Jesus declares in these verses that he and God are one. He declares his father to be greater all. This verse is a clear indicator of the Trinity.

um, why do the people who believe in the trinity have to fail at math. They believe God is 3 persons. If God is 3 persons, how is Jesus and God 1? Good Question. John 4:24 Jesus says “God is a Spirit: and we must worship him in spirit and truth” Jesus calls God a spirit, in order to believe in the trinity (God is 3 persons), you have to call Jesus a lier.
We are to pray like Jesus did, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. There is no lie that can come from Christ – only truth. Since that is the case, why would Jesus list these three persons as the ones to pray to, if we weren’t to view God as one in purpose and will with three facets? Also, if God the Father is perfectly holy, which He is and Jesus Christ is God/Man which he is, then why does scripture say the only unforgivable sin is against the Holy Spirit. And this is the same Holy Spirit that is not only our Comforter, but also moved across the waters in Genesis, seeing up close what Creation was turning out like. Since at this time only God Himself and the angels existed, then the Holy Spirit must be God. Genesis uses the term “Elohim” which is gods – to delineate God’s existence as one in essence, purpose and will with three persons. Scripture says the Jesus Christ was the Creator along with God the Father. This is a mystery we understand only in part now but will understand more when we are in heaven. Scripture is always true, we just don’t understand it all and honestly how can we? We are failed, flawed limited creatures who even if we were given eternity to accomplish the goal of comprehending God completely, we would never be able to do it! He is great beyond our very limited comprehension!
I have for some time now been experiencing some lack of faith due to this question as to whether or not the trinity is true. The idea has been implanted in my head that if I in fact do believe in the trinity, that I am idol worshiping because the concept of the trinity indicates the worship of more than one God(Idolatry). I believe in God, the father; God, the son( born by a woman and took on human flesh and lived among humankind); and God the holy spirit. I believe that God plays all of these roles. In my struggle to understand the fullness of God and to grasps him in all of his glory I realized that I a human being, flawed and limited in my understanding and knowledge, am unable to grasp the fullness of God and how he embodies all of these different aspects and fills all of these shoes. THIS IS WHY I WORSHIP HIM!!! God can not be placed into one category, or be defined by one word or passage, my mind can’t picture or imagine the vastness of who God is. If it would be so easy for me to define or contain God, than why would I need to worship him? What would make him worthy if I can describe him in one word or be able to put him in a religious, political or sexual category. My God is all knowing, My God is omnipotent, My God is the beginning and the end, My God is the first and the last. My God is limitless. We can not limit the ways we describe his power and capacity. God understands and relates to us on every level, He knows our every being and makes himself accessible to us no matter what path we happen to be walking in at any given time. Trying to define or trying to place God in a certain category or limiting him only leads to confusion and loss of faith. He is Shechinah, the source of life; the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end,the first and the last. In Exodus chapter3 v.13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelite s and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am . [b] This is what you are to say to the Israelite s: ‘I AM has sent me to you.
I AM WHO I AM! Stop trying to limit me and figure me out, YOU CAN NOT! This is why I am GOD and you are Human; created by my Hands.HOW CAN YOU DEFINE ME????? Be careful because such questioning of God can only lead to confusion and disaster. KNOW GOD FOR YOURSELF AND THE EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE HAD WITH HIM IN YOUR LIFE AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD! I AM WHO I AM. I serve One GOD, not 2, or 3 or 4. One God that satisfies my every need! One God that manifests himself in every aspect imaginable in my life. ONE GOD!!!!
In this John 10 passage, Jesus continued His dialogue and challenge to these religious leaders while revealing His power and compassion to those who are faithful. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who lovingly leads those whose trust and faith are in Him. This is in contrast to the false and prideful leaders who were thieves and who would steal what God has for us and manipulate people to their will. Christ leads us to His wondrous fold; they lead to despair. This is another powerful pronouncement of Jesus being fully God, because the metaphor of the Shepherd of Israel and how it is used here is only said of God. Being a Shepherd also means being God’s commissioned leader; thus is Jesus the Holy One who gently leads us and guides His leaders to care for His flock, the Church.
“I and the Father are one,†this echoes the “Shema,” the prime Jewish confession and declaration of faith that God is One. It is another definitive statement that testifies to the Deity of Christ: He is God. It is also a statement of the Trinity-One God and three magnifications or Persons sharing the same essence and unity (Deut. 6:4; John 1:18; 6:25-51; 14:9)!
“Father’s hand†Means our assurance, that we are doubly secure. The Supreme Omnipotence of God gently leads us to Christ and gives us the ultimate guarantee for spiritual safety and salvation. If God does not call you, you can’t come, because you will not want to. This is also a warning to those pretenders who think they know God but only use Him for their purposes of power and control, or people who teach falsely.
As far as the Trinity this may explain it to you more:
Why is understanding about the Trinity essential for being a Christian?
The word comes from the Latin, “trinitas” which means three or threeness, and the word is not found in scripture. The Bible from Genesis to Revelation depicts God as being triune in nature, that He has three forms or three ways of revealing Himself! From the third person case in Gen. 1 & 2, to a more exacting form such as here in Romans 15:17-20! Yet the O.T. proclaims One God only (Duet 6:3-5; Ex. 20; Isa. 40; 44-45), and so does the N.T. (Mark 12:29-30, I Cor. 8:4; Eph. 4:6; I Tim. 2:5)! And grave consequences for not adhering to it! A lot of argumentation over the centuries from the first early church counsel to present day TV preachers misrepresenting God. Why? Because God is beyond the confides of our limited known universe, beyond space and time, and definitely beyond our comprehension!
Thus, God reveals Himself to us as we can be able to understand and comprehend. We tend to throw our own spin and sin into the works and create the arguments ourselves, when God’s Word clearly spells out His nature! This doctrine may be hard for most people to understand, nevertheless it is true and essential for us to know the One True God. Basically there is one God who reveals Himself in three personalities, in theology they are called “Substances”.
There is God the Father (Gen 1-2; 6:5-7; Ex. 20; 32:9-14; I Kings 8:27; Psalm 90; 102:25-27; 145:18; Isa. 40:12-31; 66:1; Mal. 3:6; Matt. 10:29-30; John 4:24; 5:26; Acts 4:34-35; 17:23-25; Eph. 1:11; II Pet. 3:8; Rev. 4:10);
God the Son (John 1:-18; 20:28-31; Acts 7:59; Rom. 9:5; 10:9-13; II Cor. 12:7-9; Phil. 2:5-6; Col. 1:15-17: 2:9; Heb. 1:1-12; I Pet. 3:15); and
God the Spirit (John 14:1626; 15:26-27; 16:7-15; Acts 5:3-4).
All three are proclaimed together in Matt. 28:19; Rom. 8; 15:17-29; II Cor. 13:14; Eph. 1:3-14; II Thess. 2:13-14; I Pet. 1:2; Rev. 1:4-5). These are not separate God’s, this would be “Tritheism”, nor are they one God acting out three roles, this would be “Modalism”. Even though the word “Trinity” as a word is not found in the Bible, however the concept and essence is clearly stated. And the concept is one God with three conversing distinct ways to reveal Himself, “Personalities:, or “Substances”. They are co-equal and co-eternal, they each have full divinity, yet are a distinct Person. We are required to give equal devotion and worship, but they are not three, but One in purpose and unity.

After reading Rkrejcir’s comment, I was like, “woah. That’s a lot to read.” And even though this is kinda an old post, I decided to comment. It’s kind of simple when you think about it. I’m going to use an egg as an example. An egg, has three parts. You have the shell, the whites, and then the yolk. It’s three, yet it is one. Another example, is the sun. You have the actual sun in the sky. But then, you have the light. And then you have the heat. Three, yet one. The sun example relates many ways to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Basically, the Fayjer is the actual sun. The light, is Jesus, or, God the Son/Word.. And then the heat, is the Holy Spirit.
I hope this helps, though I highly doubt you’ll be reading this comment.
Be blessed. ^.^
