How do you do your personal Bible study? - The Gospel.com Blog

There are many different approaches to studying the Bible. Some people follow rigid reading plans; others skip around. Some people find methodologies like inductive and topical Bible studies helpful. In the past, I’ve used books that steadily and purposefully walked me through a passage; but when left to my own devices I tend to slowly read through one book at a time. I might not move on from a particular chapter for a few days or even weeks. What about you? How do you do your personal Bible Study?

Like to get with this and discuss for “joe average” the WHY that study does not seem to be important too so many now!

I think the best way to establish the discipline of reading God’s Word is using a reading plans that details which passages to read on a daily basis. That way you become familiar with the Bible.

Equally as important is doing the word as well. A good way to do this is to keep a journal about what you are learning. I like the S.O.A.P. method detailed here http://www.ehow.com/how_2324318_use-soap-method-bible-reading.html

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
