Is there such a thing as a “righteous lie”?

Is it a always a sin to lie? Is there ever a time when it’s OK to commit a “lesser” sin—perhaps to avoid what you perceive as a much more serious sin?

  1. Jaye says:

No one is perfect, as all knew, we all come short in different
areas of our walk. I need God 24/7 because temptations are always
chasing us. Like to lie and that, and yes to me, it’s always a sin,
of course, when it’s a sin, then it’s always a sin, regardless of a
time. (please, I’m not saying I don’t lie, I do in some areas,
sometimes you can just tell the truth and put yourself in trouble,
but the conviction is always there.. and if the conviction is not
there, then you get used to it, and you will probably live it.

  2. krbsr says:

If you lie you cannot be trusted.
If a person lies to me it is very hard to completely trust them again.
One lie leads to another lie. We should not lie.

  3. eacg777 says:

God doesn’t have degrees of sin, all sin is the same to Him.

Ezekial 18:20A- The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

    Colossians 3:9- Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Revelation 21:8- But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Notice the Bible says all liars.
    Would Jesus lie? No.
Should we lie? No. we are to be like Jesus.
Would Jesus come all the way down to earth for us, suffer so much for us, die for us, and rise again for us, and then not give us the power to stay free from sin? No, there is overcoming power in the blood of the Lamb!

Matthew 5:48- Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

God would never tell us to do something we couldn’t do. Thank God, we can overcome!

  4. PASTOROZ says:

WELL ABRAHAM LIED IN THE BIBLE SEVERAL TIMES AND I DIDN’T SEE HIM GET PUNISHED BY GOD FOR IT. I BELIEVE THAT WAS WHAT YOU CALLED A RIGHTEOUS LIE. YES I BELIEVE THAT TO TELL A LIE IS A SIN BUT I ALSO BELIEVE THAT TELLING THE LIE FOR A GREATER CAUSE IS TOLERABLE. WHY MEASURE SIN, IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR NEIGHBOR…SIN, IF YOU CHEAT….SIN, IF YOU CURSE….SIN, MURDER…SIN FORNICATE….SIN, DONT PAY YOUR TAXES…. SIN, OVER EAT….SIN, FIND MONEY ON THE GROUND AND DONT TURN IT IN TO THE POLICE….SIN, CAUSE STRIFE…SIN, SOW DISCORD….SIN, LOOK AT THE OPPOSITE SEX WITH LUST…SIN. DON’T READ YOUR BIBLE….SIN. SIN IS SIN IS SIN, BUT WE HAVE DEGREES OF SIN, TO GO D THERE IS NO DEGREE.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
