Watch Disney animation Paperman free, why is animation great?
Thanks to Disney for releasing their 6-minute short animation Paperman completely free to watch below, embed or download. (It's been nominated for an Oscar.) The potential for evangelism through animations is huge. Training is strategic. YWAM offers their annual School of Cartooning and Animation for Missions.
Watch Eugene Peterson talk about storytelling [video]
Storytelling, in its many and various outworkings, is vital in effective communication. If you've got 30 minutes spare this week, come back to this page and take time to learn from Eugene Peterson (Bible translator, The Message) talking to Dean Nelson about stories, the Bible, and more.
Storytelling resources and why it matters
Two interesting videos on different aspects of storytelling. First, here's a short video from Sean Buluva, an oral communication trainer. It sums up the 9 storytelling tips he also explains in writing.
Storytelling - essential for Christian communication
Yet another reminder in this video short, that storytelling is the key to communicating any message, anywhere, any audience, any purpose. My heart sinks every time I’m exposed to a sermon that contains no illustrations, no personal stories, no imagery, no jokes. Because I know that I will almost certainly have forgotten it by lunchtime.
Why humor is biblical and communicates so well
I love the self-deprecating New Zealand humor, exemplified by comedy series such as Flight of the Conchords. Below is the new Air New Zealand safety video, in Middle Earth Hobbit mode. Priceless. But here's the thing. Have you ever paid much attention to a safety briefing? Did you remember it later? Probably not. But embed something in humor, and you gain instant attention, with high memorability and comprehension. Humor is biblical. Use it to communicate. Jesus did. Constantly. Creatively.
New ebook REACH on using social media to share the good news
The authors are convinced of the incredible kingdom opportunity that social media provide, and they present this potential in an enticing and clear way. Their main focus is on Facebook (including the opportunity to share YouTube clips within it), plus a brief encouragement to blog.
What should happen in your brain during storytelling?
There is, happily, a growing understanding of the significance of storytelling for good communication. The video below explains research into brain chemistry as a response to storytelling.
Extraordinary Ordinary - #6713
You say, "Oh, I'm just a Sunday School teacher. I'm just a helper. I'm just a choir member. I'm just an untrained, simple person who loves Jesus." You're not a "just a..." Stop it! Don't keep saying you're "just a..." You're not that if you open yourself up to letting the Holy Spirit make your ordinary extraordinary.
YouVersion – changing the whole context of Bible
If you don't yet have a smartphone, you may not realise their compelling advantages. These include having with you 24/7: a still/video camera, diary (which can syncronize automatically to other family members, work colleagues, church etc.), satnav, photo album, note-taker, alarm-clock/watch, Kindle e-reader (there's a free Kindle app – and there are plenty of free classics to choose from), news updates, games as well as all the usual web services – browsing, email, Facebook, Twitter. Free (or very cheap) apps extend this functionality in many ways. The YouVersion bible app is a further opportunity for Jesus followers with smartphones.
