Bible Concordance :: Baal
The name of a false god that means "master." The people of Canaan believed Baal had power over the land, crops and animals. Judges 2:10-15; 1 Kings 18:16-39; Jeremiah 11:13


Bible Concordance :: Atonement
A payment or offering to remove or forgive sins. In the Old Testament, the people of Israel sacrificed animals to show that atonement must be made for the sins of the people.


Bible Concordance :: Asherah
The name of a fertility goddess that the people of Canaan worshiped. Often wooden poles were set up as symbols of Asherah for people to worship at. Exodus 34:12-14; 2 Chronicles 34:1-7; Micah 5:10-15


Bible Concordance :: Ark of the Covenant
A special box made of wood and covered with gold. It had two gold angels on top of it. The written copy of the Ten Commandments was kept inside the box. The Ark of the Covenant was a sign to the people of Israel that God was with them. Exodus 25:10-22; Joshua 3; 2 Samuel 6:1-19

Amen means "Yes, this is true!" or "Let it be so!". Nehemiah 8:6; Revelation 7:11-12

A place where people would bring gifts to God. Altars were usually flat on top. They were made of dirt, rocks, wood or metal. 1 Kings 18:30-39; Revelation 8:1-5

To pour oil on a person's head. It meant that God's Spirit was selecting that person do a special job. 1 Samuel 16:1-13; 1 John 2:20-21
