Works in the Bible: Ephesians 2:8-10
Good works are an important part of following Christ--they are tangible outgrowths of our faith. But good works by themselves are not enough to save us; salvation must come through faith. This passage forms the basis of the belief that we are "saved by grace alone, through faith."

Filthy rags in the Bible: Isaiah 64:6
When we do something good, we're proud of what we've done, but this passage says that even our best, most noble works are like "dirty rags" when it comes to earning us a place in heaven--they're useless and good for nothing. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - The Biggest Spiritual Mistake In The World - #4334
Tragically, most of the religious people on this planet are making the mistake of trying to earn from God what He says we can only have as a gift. Ron Hutchcraft Ministries - Why Mission Impossible Isn't - #3838
Maybe you're looking at the week ahead, the day or month ahead - and you're saying, "Looks like Mission Impossible." I sure have those seasons. In fact, it was one of those times when the challenges looked overwhelming that God really introduced me to our word for today from the Word of God.

I've lived a pretty good life. I'll go to heaven, if there is one, won't I? - Faith Facts
The belief that goodness earns eternal salvation is the single most prevalent misconception about Christian teaching. The question is, by whose standard are you "good"—God's perfect standard or man's imperfect one? Or do we actually need a Savior? Read more....
