Where were you on 9/11?

Today is the anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, and writers around the web are contributing thoughts and reflections about that fateful event and its aftermath. One such site is Relevant Magazine, which has asked a number of writers from the Burnside Writers Collective to share their thoughts on 9/11 and the effect it’s had on their spiritual lives. The reflections are short, honest, and thought-provoking.

What about you? Where were you on 9/11, and what went through your mind when you first heard the news? What does it mean to you today—is it just another tragedy (albeit a particularly horrifying one) among many that have struck the world before and since? Or has it had a more profound impact on your faith?

On that infamous day, I was at work at TravelPlus. One of our computer technicians from our parent, Peragis, came in to say a small plane had crashed into the Trade Centre North Tower. I immediately switched on the TV in the conference room where management staff all gathered and we witnessed live the second aircraft crash into the south tower.

I was overcome with sadness for the people who had lost there lives both in the buildings hit and on the aircraft hijacked and those who died on the ground rendering service to those in distress.
I realized that possibly many of those whom were killed that day may not have known Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. They kept putting it off. Now for them it was too late!

I have no doubt that God was in complete control on September 11th.

I was also mindful of how America has drifted from God in much the same way Israel turned her back on God and worshipped strange gods. In each case, judgement fell. Was this God’s judgement on America?

You just have to look back and see how America has fallen since the day our Founding Fathers established this nation based on Biblical Principles. The Bible and prayer have been banned from schools. Our lawmakers and politicians do not know the Lord. We are drifting farther and farther from God. Homosexuality and aids is running rampant throughout America.
We need to get on our knees and pray and commit our lives to Jesus. We need to spend quality time reading The Bible. The Bible is our only guide and resource on living life has Jesus intended us to.
