Drink wine in the Bible - a Christian perspective

Paul tells Timothy to drink wine in this verse. Apparently, Timothy had some problems with his stomach and illness, so Paul proscribed wine as a cure.

JESUS turned water to wine(not liquid Tylenol)during a feast for a wedding. Rev.22:18-19 We tend to make things way to difficult. We want to fix ours & others lives the way we see fit. In order for us to do that, GOD’s word gets distorted a little, twisted you might say. HE says don’t get drunk, not don’t drink. It’s as easy as John 14:6, the only way to heaven is thru JESUS. This Buds is for you, just kiddin’!!! GOTCHA

  2. Starlene says:

yes you are correct andy p about people using wat scriptures they need to fit and justify the way they want to live..We are to separate ourselves as Christians (Living Christ Like)from the likeness of the worldly things. Would Jesus, who we are to fashion ourselves after, sit and drink a beer or anything alcoholic and say as long as i don’t get drunk it’s ok, NO he wouldn’t!!! We are to be different in our actions, thoughts, where we go, things we do, things we see, and things we listen too, ect…from the carnal person. “Come out from among them”

  3. levibrandon says:

Jesus not only turned the water into wine but he turned it into wine that was better than what had already been served. “Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the waterpots with water.’ So they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, ‘Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.’ So they took it to him. When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom, and said to him, ‘Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.’” (John 2:7-10) This was Jesus’ first miracle and he did so somewhat unwillingly because when his mother told him they were out of wine he said, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” (verse 4) Now, if Jesus were against drinking wine and didn’t drink it himself, why would he consent to performing such a miracle as to turn the water into wine (the best wine) after the rest had been consumed? Some might even go out further on the limb and say the wine source had been tapped out because the people were drinking in excess. After all, it was a celebration. As far as we know, beer and liquor came later but who’s to say, had those things been relevant at the time, he wouldn’t have turned the water into beer or cocktails? Andy p is right in saying the Scriptures have been twisted. They haven’t been twisted by the world in this respect, but by the church. Christians are the ones responsible for making the consumption of alcohol worthy of judgement and condemnation when we are not told to abstain from drinking but rather to abstain from drunkenness; not because of drunkenness in itself but because it leads to debauchery. (Ephesians 5:18) Labeling drinking alcohol as sinful is manmade religious law and has nothing to do with Scripture. It is my belief that the enemy has very effectively led believers to split hairs over such miniscule issues to distract them from their sole purpose: To reach souls and add them to the Kingdom of God. (The Great Commission, Matthew 28)

  4. NaomiM says:

If Gods people would follow the Book and understand exactly what God is saying without trying to squeeze our own interpretation and thoughts, only then we will be in one accord. But because we choose certain boundaries for our Own Spiritual Life we want everyone else to do so. If you drink knowing that for You it’s not good because you use to be a hard drinker or maybe it will take you to something else that is not of faith, or maybe God said you will stay away from these things because he has a plan for you as Bishop, etc. then stay away from it. Do not sit on the Throne to judge and speculate what Jesus would do or not do. I knew a man that still serves God..but he preached in my church that women could not use heels because they would walk making noise to bring attention to themselves…we could not wear jean skirts with pockets with zipper in front of the skirt…he let himself go by Isaiah chapter 3..verse 8 on. You know whatever you do that is SIN and Speak Words that are not of Faith, that you will have to be accountable for. I do believe the more you seek God the more He will show up for you. Be blessed!!!!

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
