Generous - a Christian perspective

Generosity and charity are characteristics of a Christian life. Someone who puts those ideals into practice will prosper, while those who live selfishly will not.

Unfortunately many people interprete “prosperity” as earthly things, materialism, success with a big house, two cars and white picket fence.

Someone who puts those ideals into practice longs to do the will of God. Prosperity is a spiritual gift that enables them to do more towards the doing of God’s will.

In the Christian era, Paul states first and foremost to not conform to the world, Jesus tells us He is not of the world and nor should we. When obeyed we become different from those in the world, we are hated for our difference and we suffer as a consequence but we are rewarded with spiritual prosperity not worldly prosperity.

…and since it can only be one – it should be clear what Biblical prosperity is.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
