  1. Bas says:

I am looking for help from the scripture and not what one thinks. As a small group facilitator, the question came up.. What is GAMBLING? One member of the group have a business arrangement, he bought 3 houses, the arrangement he had with the builder is that he is going to move into the first house when it is finish, he will then put it up for sale at a profit and the builder will build the second house and he would do likewise to the third house hoping that when he got the last house he will have a small mortgage. Is this gambling or just business. Also investing money in Mutual funds etc, is this gambling or business? If you have the answer from the scripture I would like your response.

  2. Chris says:

@Bas, I don’t have scripture to support this, but so long as what your friend is doing is ethical, I don’t think it’s gambling. It would fall under the realm of business in my opinion.

The Bible isn’t going to give you a hard and fast rule about whether or not investing in the stock market or in real estate is gambling or not (and even then the Bible doesn’t give a hard and fast rule on whether or not all gambling is wrong).

You can find some guiding principles in the Bible about money. Follow this link to see a number of verses linked to wealth and money:

The main thing is to remember that money should never be our master and we should never use it for evil.
