Life and death - a Christian perspective

The Bible is very clear about the power of speech to do great good or evil. Here, words are described as having the power of life and death--the power to build somebody up, or tear them down. The power of the tongue should not be underestimated.

  1. Rachell says:

    Life and Death
In Ezekiel 37 the prophet Ezekiel was carried by the Spirit to the Valley of the Dry Bones. He was then asked by the Lord whether these dry bones could live. Ezekiel was very cautious when he said that the Lord was the only one that can know this. The Lord then asked him to prophesy or speak to the bones. Ezekiel was asked to speak life to these dry bones. On the instruction of the Lord, Ezekiel spoke and he gave the bones tendons and flesh. There was a rattling and shaking sound as bones came together in the same order as their original state but still without life. Ezekiel had to call on or bring the four winds so that breathe and life could be blown into these bodies. He by prophesy and speaking to the dry bones it came to life. He brought the bones from death to life through the spoken words, following the command of the Lord, following the will of God. It is not written that Ezekiel doubted the possibility of the bones coming to life or that Ezekiel doubted that his words had power.
From this scripture is clear that words can bring to life what was dead without taking into consideration how long this condition existed. Words have the power to change what cannot be done in the natural to what can be done in the supernatural. Words are powerful to transform what was in darkness to light ( Genesis 1: 3). The spoken word if according to the command and will of God has the power to bring anything to life. It has the power to change the status of things and circumstances and bring forth growth. It also has the power to bring to life any number of bodies or people who was in a condition of “ death”. In church we might find a few dead bodies or dry bones. We that are alive in Christ, through His Spirit within us, have the ability to speak life to these dry bones. We have the ability to call on the 4 winds (Spirit from above) to bring life to the body of Christ, which might be our local church, small group or family. We should speak the word and prophesy over our colleagues, children and friends and bring life to their “dead and dry” lives.
