Tithe in the Bible - a Christian perspective
Tithing was the Old Testament practice of giving a tenth of your earnings back to God. Many Christian churches continue to look at this as an excellent guide for charitable giving today.

i want to give tithe and offering, but my husband is not at all with what the bible teachings or the church. he thinks i am preaching to him but i try to explain the scripture. his words “i do thanks God for making it this far and what we do have”, “he says” but if i try to explain that God has bless us and how much more would we be bless if we learn to be obiendance and give what he gave anyway first to us.he is just consume because we have many debts and i am just coming back to the working field. sadly we left this talk in a bad note and i felt like i didnt ask God, if the timing was okay for him to recv.is there anything else i could do?that would be like me giving my tithe and offering. I know God knows my heart conserning this issue. i just need to hear another point of view. i know the nature man cannot understand without the spirit so as i try to understand submission what is my best position . thank you ! this is the first time i ever wrote anything to share by computer but i hope your answer will help many other readers.
I have been in the situation of being in debt and having to pay tithes. My husband and I decided to be faithful to God and watch Him work. It was difficult at first because the creditors were constantly calling, but it soon worked out…we are now managing well and seeing our way as we continue to return our tithes to the Lord. Keep returning what God asks…and soon your faithfulness will be rewarded and it will be a witness to your husband of the might of our God.
Many oneman Ghanaian churches in UK says you should pay tithe after your monthly wages/salary before paying your house rent/mortgage, Gas, Eletricity, credit card, bus/travel card and other bills. They question if you fail to pay the same amount at the end of the month. Every Church meeting you should pay collection of £5, not less. It can goes on about three times at every church meeting (£15). What is the different between donation to Charity and tithe to a oneman church and collections? If tithe is to be piad before paying home bills then I think it should be before Government Tax & National Insurance contributions.
So, the tithe is the only OT tenant which isn’t repeated in the NT (see if you ever hear that from the pulpit). God does not want your pennies, He wants your heart. If he get’s your heart, you will gladly take care of His peoples needs.
As confirmed by other comments, the issue of tithing has become exactly what the enemies of God wants; a detriment, a dreaded burden, and an object of contention. Pastors and other church leaders should examine FEAR and its precise impact on their own faith regarding tithing in terms of the overt and covert messages they convey to others(In Gods Name). Releasing congregants into the liberty (and God-likeness)of personally determining gift types and amounts (in private consultation with Him) is more attuned with the red letter protagonist of the scripture. By definition, all vehement defenders of strict tithing should be carefully scrutinized as to motivation, “skin in the game”, and specifically bible knowledge about tithing. We are biblically admonished to “test all spirits”. This practice forms or should form the basis of good stewardship referenced in Christian scripture.
