Tithes in the Bible: Numbers 18:26-32
Tithing--giving ten percent of one's income to charity and the church--is a long-standing practice that is originally laid out here in the Old Testament. Most Christians today still practice tithing as a way of supporting the church financially and reminding themselves that our money and resources are gifts from God.

Hi there,
Which scripture says if you don’t pay your tithings you will need to pay God back in Heaven?
Thank you,
Lucy
Wow you know that this verse was meant only for the Israelites and it wasn’t until Jesus brought up the tithing subject as an act of obedince to God. And where on earth did you get paying God back in Heaven? there was no mention of that whatsoever! Your tithing is between you and God and if you don’t then that’s just it. Yes it does have an effect on your relationship with God but that does not mean that you have to pay God back if you didn’t. There is no scripture that mentions that in the Bible that i am aware of. If I’m wrong then let me know because i don’t mind critism.
yes you are right…tithing is between you and God!
freewill in faith, how in the world can you pay
Almighty God back?
malachi 3:10 says it very clear when gods prophet spoke to the people and commanded them by god to give a tenth of there earnings to god but if not to be consider a thieve.nothing added about paying god back in heaven you either obey god and be bless or desobey his commmand and be curse no in betweens.so god bless and continue to be faithful because he was first to you amen .brother in christ jesus our lords and saviour moe
The word of God shows that the tithe was instituted by God as a part of the Mosaic Las, so that the Levites and Priest, who coul not own land, would be provided for. Before the Law God did not command a tithe, and the commandment to tithe ended when the Church started just like the Temple, sacrifices, and priestly system ended. However, Romans 12v1 tells us that the word of God says that we should present our bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God which is our reasonable service, which include giving, giving time, material goods and money. I believe we should give and give freely and that is between you and God but certainly we cannot pay God back in heaven, how can u do that? we certainly cannot pay God back for sacrificing His son for us. The tithe has become such an issue that it leaves people confuse because there are some leaders who use the scripture to suite their need and I believe that the 10% is used as a method to make people feel guilty especially when you are told that if you do not tithe you will go to hell and you are curse. That is a lie from the pit of hell. if leaders stop talking about the tithe the people will not give and the bills will not be paid but we must teach the word of truth and leave the lies out for people to get the full understanding the Bible says my people perish for the lack of knowledge
No where in the new testament God or the apostles spoke about tithes….they only talk about offerings and giving….even the greatest Apostle work as a tent maker b.c he didn’t want to hinder the Gospel and when people gave offering what has been purpose in their hearts he gave to those who were in need…..what belongs to God is us….not 10 percent is his money…all of our money belongs to God……the tiths belongs to the old testament…we are in a new convenant which is grace ….its better for offerings and giving b.c its done out of love…but tithes is out of obligation b.c of the Law but we have been set free from the Law….Christ paid our debts on the Cross…what u guys think?
Does tithing have to be to a church or church organization in order to count as tithes?
Leviticus 27:30-32 (New International Version)
30 ” ‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD. 31 If a man redeems any of his tithe, he must add a fifth of the value to it. 32 The entire tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the LORD.
this is for you Lucy
Our sermon today is about tithes. I feel guilty about the sermon, felt like it’s purposely directed to me because I don’t give the full 10% of my income before tax. I would love to if I wasn’t supporting members of the family from far away (back home) aside from my own family where I am. I believe God is using me to help the very people close to my heart who needed my help too. Isn’t this another way of giving tithes to our Lord, helping who needed it most? Is it right for a church minister to ask it’s members (voluntarily) to come and see them for some sort of financial advice/lecture on how you should manage your own finances and to divulge how much you earn? Please enlighten me……thank you
