  1. Rebecca South says:

Is there something that shows the difference of a tithe, offering, gifts, designated giving? I know they are not all the same and need something that explains this. Thanks!

  2. Rkrejcir says:

They are pretty much synonyms, meaning what or the amount you give… Traditionally a Tithe is considered 10%, a total done over 1 year,..but in Scripture it is more like 33% but that also included the taxes to the state too.. The other terms would mean, “offering” is what you choose to give to a specific church or a or the gift you give to your church each Sunday…a “designated giving” is to a specific project for a specific reason in a church or ministry…be careful the IRS does not like designated giving as a gift must be a gift w/o stings…see the above article for more info…

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
