The Christian life is here compared to an athletic event, in which athletes compete for a prize. If people will work hard to attain a prize that won't last forever, should they devote themselves even more fully to the pursuit of a prize that will endure?

Athletes in the Bible: 2 Timothy 2:3-5
Athletes agree to certain rules when they compete. These rules go for training as well as on the actual day of competition. In 2 Timothy, the author tells us that we must endure hardships in our faith just as athletes endure hardships in training.
