Paul says, Jesus "gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness" (Titus 2:13). How can we drift back into the things He died to get us out of? I can't think of a greater insult to the Man who died for you. Because of Jesus, you were able to drive out of the storm, out of the darkness, out of eternal danger. Don't go back there. Everything you were made for, everything you need is on the Jesus-road ahead of you.

Sharp Edges - #5963
Gentle treatment of people - especially when we're feeling tired, or tense, or frustrated - doesn't necessarily come naturally. God describes it as a "fruit of the Spirit." It's a characteristic Jesus has that He can produce in you through His Holy Spirit who lives in you. But you have to reach the point where, first of all, you're willing to see those sharp edges that you have and repent of them as part of the sinful old you that's all dark and ugly.

If you wanted to draw that in picture form, you'd put you on the left side of the page and God on the right and you would be walking away from Him, with your back to Him to the source of the love and the peace and the power you desperately need. If you die with your back still to Him, erase God from the picture forever. And that's hell. Unless you can find a way to get rid of your sin and get back to Him, like the space station without the sun, the result is ultimately death.
