What’s the best book about Christianity you read in 2009?

I didn’t create an official list of New Year’s resolutions for myself for 2010, but every January I like to compile a list of books I’d like to read by the end of the new year. There’s no shortage of novels and history books to pick from, but I’d like your help in selecting a few good books about Christianity.

What’s the best book about Christianity you read last year (other than the Bible, which I hope we’re already reading regularly)? It could be a book of theology, a novel, a set of essays, or any other written work about the faith. Why would you recommend it to others?

The book that has had a profound meaning in my life is a book by john Ortberg called When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box. Talk about gaining perspective. Your life won’t be the same if you lay hold of the truths in this book.

  • Uhh … The Bible!?!?!?!?!?!?

      Hi Ashley,

I meant a book other than the Bible–because I assume that we all agree that we should be reading the Bible anyway :)

The Mark of the Lion Series is a three book series about characters who embrace Christianity. Written by Francine Rivers, it will move you, touch you, bring you down to your knees as it strongly, yet gently, brings you to the love of God and Christ. Amazing read!

In a pit with a lion on a snowy day by Mark Batterson. It talks about facing your fears and seizing the day. We need to stop being wimpy christians and start being christians that will take down lions with our bare hands. The main story is 2 Samuel 20 where Beneiah slays a lion in a pit on a snowy day and then kills a giant egyptian. He then lands a job as a body guard for the king. I want to kill lions every day after reading that book.
