The Not So Grim Reapers - #6555
Don't wait a long time for discipline. When a lot of time has passed, the lesson will be forgotten. Explain the discipline; explain why it's wrong. Be consistent, especially in the early stages of trying to establish a boundary in your child's life. Whatever you do, don't fail in this life-giving responsibility. Be sure your children learn from your discipline that whatever a man sows, he will reap.

But our feelings about God are based way too much on our experiences with our parents, with people who've hurt us, and on our immediate circumstances. Punish - a Christian perspective
In the Old Testament during Noah's time the earth was a vastly wicked place. Every inclination of evil that man could think of was happening. God heartrendingly decided that humanity needed to be punished, and soon after the flood happened. Much later in history, Jesus came to the earth and through his death he took the burden of punishment for our signs on his shoulders.
