What’s Your Favorite Easter Song?

Easter is fast approaching, which means church services will soon be filled with songs about the cross and the resurrection. This is one of my favorite times of the year for worship, when the church around the world cracks open its hymnals to sing classics like “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today”, “Hallelujah, What a Savior” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.”

What’s your favorite Easter Hymn or Song?

I have two favorites: “The Strife Is O’er, the Battle Done” and “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” I also love singing “The Holy City” and “Christ Arose.” Easter music is so exciting. This Holy Day is my favorite of all the year!

The old rugged cross is a favorite but I think my absolute favorite would be Open the Gates of the Temple. Our dear family freind, who passed over 20 years ago was the choir director in our church and they always sang it. To me it was always so powerful

  • My Favorite Easter song would have to be “Up from the Grave He Arose”.
A second one would be “Out of the Ivory Palaces”.

There are many Easter favorites, but Sandi Patty’s, “Was It A Morning Like This?” helps me to picture what it must have been like to be there that first Easter morning!

I can’t think of an Easter song (at the moment) more beautiful than the Byzantine Easter troparion:
“Khristos anesti ek nekron, Thanato thanaton patisas, Kai tis en tis mnimasi Zo-in kharisamenos”
    in English:
“Christ is risen from the dead,
    trampling down death by death
and to those in the tombs he has given life”

I love all of the Easter Songs!! But if I had to pick a favorite old one, it would have to be “He’s Alive” by Dolly Parton; My next favorite would be the new song “The Empty Tomb Says It All” by The Kingdom Heirs I believe is the group singing it.Thanks for letting me share, and God Bless you all!!

  • Go tell it on a mountain.
    Over the hills and everywhere.
Go tell it on a mountain.
    That Jesus Christ is born.

  • Jan says:

” I know my Redeemer lives”

I’d probably have to go with Charles Wesley’s “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” But a close second is Edmund Budry’s “Thine Be the Glory.”
