Luke 2:13-14 from the Word of God says, "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.'"

Because the sinless Son of God carried the death penalty for your sin and mine when He died on that awful cross.
